Tomorrow evening, from 4 to 7 p.m., the Gahanna Market sets up in Creekside for its August date, with local vendors, a bar cart running on CORA rules, and a live set from Isabella on the Creekside stage. If you've lived in Gahanna more than a summer, you already know this rhythm. It's the same plaza, the same wristband-and-cup system, the same reason your Friday nights have a soundtrack from May through September.
What's changed this year isn't happening on that stage. It's happening about a mile north, on Hamilton Road and Stygler Road, where two brand-new restaurants opened within days of each other in April and neither one has anything to do with Creekside's usual lineup of breweries and brunch spots.
If you've been treating "going out in Gahanna" as synonymous with the Creekside District, you've been missing where the actual variety landed this year.
The Creekside Rhythm, Which Hasn't Changed
Creekside earns its reputation honestly. The district runs on the Creekside Outdoor Refreshment Area, commonly called CORA, which lets you buy a drink from a participating bar or restaurant, get a wristband, and carry that drink in a branded cup anywhere within the district's boundaries as long as you stay outdoors. It's a genuinely unusual perk for a town this size, and it's the reason Creekside Plaza feels more like a festival ground than a strip of restaurants on any given summer weekend.
The 2026 concert calendar backs that up. Creekside Live, the Friday series at Creekside Park & Plaza, brought in Hoodoo Soul Band on May 29, McGuffey Lane on June 26, and LDNL on July 31, with each show pulling an estimated 1,000 to 2,000 people into the plaza. The Gahanna Market adds its own smaller-scale version on select dates, and Friendship Park runs Cinema Under the Stars this Friday, August 7, with yard games and food trucks starting at 7 p.m.

A few blocks away, Soul 2 Go Express opened its third location at 134 N. Hamilton Road that same month, following a soft opening and a grand opening weekend from May 1 through May 3. The brothers behind it, Will, Kevin, and Keith Hightower, along with their business partner Jerome Ross, built the Gahanna spot as a streamlined version of their full-service Uptown District restaurant, designed for quick carryout and delivery with a small dine-in section. The signature bowl pairs fried buttermilk chicken with mac and cheese, collard greens, and candied yams, the kind of scratch cooking that hasn't had a Gahanna outpost before.
Neither restaurant is inside the CORA boundary. Neither one has a concert series attached. They opened because Hamilton Road and Stygler Road have become the corridor where new restaurant concepts land first, not because anyone marketed them as a destination.

101 Craft Kitchen, tucked into Stoneridge Plaza facing Hamilton Road, was already there before this year's openings, serving scratch-made lunch, brunch, and happy hour just minutes from Easton Town Center. It's proof the corridor was building toward this before Gold Cudgel and Soul 2 Go arrived. This year just made the pattern impossible to miss.
The Pattern Doesn't Stop at the City Line

The Creek Still Runs Your Daytime, Just Not Up There

The Big Walnut Trail, a 4.6-mile paved path along Big Walnut Creek, connects Academy Park, Woodside Green Park, the Gahanna Municipal Golf Course, Creekside Park & Plaza, Veterans Memorial Park, and the Gahanna Swimming Pool. Warm-weather months also bring kayak and paddle boat rentals on the creek through Gahanna Parks and Recreation. All of it threads through the Creekside side of town.
That network doesn't reach Hamilton Road or Stygler Road. If your plan is a trail walk followed by dinner, you're staying in Creekside by default, and that's still the right call for it.
